Federal Funding for RCDI: $24
million has been appropriated in the FY 2000, FY 2001, FY 2002
and FY 2003 budgets for the USDA.
Increased Foundation Attention and Support:
There is now a 288 member Rural Funders Working Group in the Neighborhood
Funders Group, a recognized Affinity Group of the Council
on Foundations. The Working Group helped create a $100
million National Rural Funders
Collaborative that is making grants, sponsoring meetings,
and making site visits.
More Private Investment: Stand
Up has helped leverage more than $74.6 billion
in private investment mainly by Fannie Mae and Bank of
America, but also by Freddie Mac, the Local Initiatives
Support Corporation's (LISC) National Equity Fund, and Rural
Opportunities, Inc.
A Rural Community Developers Network:
The Campaign has organized a Rural Community Developers
Network with some 1,811 grassroots members. It is
providing this membership with biweekly information on funding
and financing opportunities, training, other resources and
policy issues, publishing and distributing a Network
Reporter by e-mail, fax and mail. Click here to join
the Network.
A Congressional
Rural Caucus: Inspired by Stand
Up, US Representatives Eva Clayton (D-NC,
retired) and Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) have restarted a bipartisan
Congressional Rural Caucus (CRC), recruiting some 141 House
Members to date. Recently two new co-chairs were
elected, US Representatives John Peterson (R-PA) and Allen
Boyd (D-FL). The CRC is dedicated to insuring that rural
communities receive their fair share of federal resources and
policy support.
