Stand
Up for Rural America Day
On May 7, 2002, the Campaign celebrated the second
national Stand up for Rural America Day with a
Gala attended by 500 in Washington, DC, co-sponsored by The
Congressional Rural Caucus, Bank of America and the Fannie Mae
Foundation. Speakers were: Bob Warwick, Chair of the
Stand Up Steering Committee; William Cooper, President, Bank
of America, Greater Washington; Raymon R. Christman, President
and CEO, Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and Chair, FHLBank
Presidents Conference; Jamie Gorelick, Vice Chair, Fannie Mae;
Andrew Piepler, Senior Vice President, Fannie Mae Foundation;
Michael Rubinger, President and CEO, LISC; and US
Representatives Eva Clayton, Jo Ann Emerson and Marcy Kaptor.
The
Rural Community Developers Network Reporter
This biweekly newsletter provides up-to-date information
on funding and financing opportunities, policy issues,
training events and other resources. It is distributed
to members of the Rural Community Developers Network and
Friends of the Network. Click on the link to see a
sample copy of the Reporter, review an archive of past
editions, and register to receive it.
Directory
of Rural Community Developers
Revised in 2002, this publication lists and maps some 1,385
rural community based development organizations (CBDOs),
summarizing their activities related to: Affordable
Housing; Essential Facilities; Businesses and Jobs; and Basic
Services. It includes a summary of data from the 1998
comprehensive Census of Community Based Developers and
Organizations, conducted by the National Congress for
Community Economic Development with support from Stand Up for
Rural America. You may download the entire directory, or
select individual states.

A
Place in the Country
A film produced by The Center for Rural Strategies, Appalshop,
Inc., and Rural LISC, A Place in the Country,
shows the work of seven rural community developers from Maine
and South Dakota to California and Texas. Narrated by
Ray Suarez of PBS's The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, the
documentary also features excerpts of interviews with US
Senators Kit Bond (R-MO) and Tom Daschle (D-SD), US
Representatives Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) and Eva Clayton (D-NC,
retired), and Robert E. Rubin, Chairman of the Executive
Committee at Citigroup. (57 minutes)

Center for Rural Strategies
(CRS)
Co-producer of A Place in the Country, CRS seeks to
improve economic and social conditions in rural areas through
