What are the Campaign purpose and goals? The Stand Up for Rural America Campaign is a national coalition initiative designed to help rural community developers gain the resources and policy support their work deserves. Phase I of the Campaign was successful in achieving four specific goals: (1) securing $12 million in funding for the first nonprofit capacity building program --the Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI)-- in USDA; (2) helping stimulate a Rural Funders Working Group in the Council on Foundations; (3) helping generate over $10 billion in private investment initiatives for rural community development; and (4) organizing an umbrella network --the Network of Rural Community Developers-- to continue educating funders, lenders and policy makers (current membership of 1,350+ community-based organizations --CDCs). The Campaign goals during Phase II are: strengthening the Rural Community Developers Network so that its members speak and act on their own behalf; increasing attention and support by producing and airing a public television documentary on the challenges rural communities face and how community developers are addressing them; and assisting the Congressional Rural Caucus in becoming an effective voice in the new Administration and Congress. Why sign on as a Campaign Sponsor and/or Network Member? To indicate your organization's support for these goals. Sponsors of the Campaign include a coalition of more than 130 national, regional and statewide organizations, plus nearly 650 local organizations (see listings on this site). To become a sponsor, your organization need not be a CDC (among others, Campaign sponsors include banks, foundations and educational institutions). To join the Network of Rural Community Developers, your organization needs to be a private nonprofit corporation working to develop a rural community with significant numbers of low income residents. Network members receive the Network Reporter free --biweekly email, blastfax or hard copy on funding and financing opportunities, policy issues, trainings and other resources. If you are not a CDC but would like to receive the Network Reporter, please sign up as a Friend of the Network and we will be happy to send you a complimentary electronic copy.
